Task

Provoke set out to combine human insight about home cooking and extensive knowledge of manufacturing possibilities to create a new set of ergonomic knives that appeal to the target segment.

Challenge

Iittala wanted a new, fresh set of knives with a modern design.

The project was to be run as a product development project instead of a more typical traditional design process often used by other designers for kitchen ware.

Process

The design process for the knives was run as any other product development project within Provoke - combining design and mechanical design with the consumer insight created by Provoke Strategics team.

The Creative team used 3D CAD and rapid prototypes extensively to design the knives and to test the optimal shapes for the various knives.

Result

The knife designs created by Provoke form a natural extension to Iittala`s cooking items, exemplary attention to detail and functionality. The knives are manufactured from high-quality carbon steel, and the shape, edge, and thickness of their blades are carefully designed to compliment each other.

The eye-catching design is finished off with red-striped handles. The range offers even the most demanding home cook a knife for every need.
