Innovation task

Apply user-centric approach to hospital work. Industrial design and the user interface must be accepted by future hospital workers - including generation Z, now finishing their elementary school.

Medical devices, their design and usability are rapidly approaching consumer electronics design.

Challenge

How to use modern industrial design and user interface ideas to create a medical device that will be used in 2010-2020 and beyond.

Strict U.S. regulations dictated documentation and requirements for user interface and industrial design.

Process

The Creatives team followed medical guidelines and U.S. medical standards to ensure that all the usability requirements were met.

Innovation was pursued using scenario work and LiveProto® modeling.

Usability was tested by user trial and the project was documented thoroughly according to regulations.

Result

LiveProto® prototypes were tested 2 years before market launch. The LiveProto worked as a superior communication tool creating common acceptance between interest groups.

User interface and industrial design were confirmed based on the feedback from the user-testing, enabling peace-of-mind that the device will be easy-to-use
