Innovation task

Provoke conducted several innovation labs to understand what people want tomorrow - not what they want today. Focusing on a range of emerging subjects to proactively create insight for new opportunities that could strengthen or even change the 2012 mobile trends.

In 2007, Provoke was assigned to make a conceptual study for the New York Design Week 2008.

The aim was to study where mobile phone trends are heading in 4 years. The concepts were created for the New York Design Week.

Challenge

Product development is facing new challenges as user experience is replacing the device-centric mindset in progressive companies. Most companies are still creating products without really understanding the needs and values of the end-users.

Often the design, the user interface, the linked services and even the marketing message seem to be conflicting, thus blurring the usability and desirability of any new concept.

Process

Provoke used its unique and systematic ValueMap® tools based on MBTI® and psychographic segmentation to analyze human behavior and to monitor how new technologies like robotics, sensors and illumination could radically transform the user experiences.

Provoke uses user-centric design in concept innovation. That means bringing in the viewpoint of the end-customer. Then prototyping everything since a prototype is worth a thousand pictures.

Result

In 2008, Provoke presented three of the concepts: Express, Feel and Share as interactive prototypes at New York Design Week.

“Mobile concepts 2007” is a collection of clearly differentiated devices for focused end-user segments. Especially Feel-concept arouse a lot of interest and strengthened the foresight that robotics is becoming a hot topic even in mobile phones.
